Select Committee on Mental Health and Addictions to hold public hearings

April 30, 2009

The Select Committee on Mental Health and Addictions is holding public hearings across Ontario. This legislative committee is made up of representatives of all parties in the Ontario legislature. It was formed to provide input into the provincial mental health and addiction strategy that is currently being developed by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.

The committee will hold hearings the week of June 15 in Windsor, St. Thomas, Hamilton and Kingston. The deadline to notify the committee of your interest in making an oral presentation at any of the four meetings is 12 noon on May 11. In the fall, the select committee will also hold hearings in Toronto, Thunder Bay, Sudbury, North Bay and Ottawa. The deadline for notifying the committee of your interest in presenting in these communities has not yet been announced but will likely be in July or August.

Written submissions are also welcome but there is yet no deadline for such submissions.

To indicate your interest in presenting to the committee in June, contact Susan Sourial by phone at 416-325-7352, by fax at 416-325-3505, or by e-mailing susan_sourial@ontla.ola.org. Collect calls will be accepted.

The notice of the June public hearings of the Select Committee on Mental Health and Addictions is available at www.ontla.on.ca.
